Swine Flu..

Another on-going pandemic is coming.. Swine Flu.. Back to the few year ago, We had Nipah, SARS and followed by Bird Flu. It seems like we really having lots of zoonotic diseases nowadays. Mutation of the viruses which previously hosted in animals had changed them to be able to transmit to human. This is something dangerous. But with the advance of technologies and medical support, most of the pandemic can be handle within a short period of time. How about the Swine Flu that occur recently. I do believe that WHO and all the medical personnels from all over the countries are trying their best to get it control. Meanwhile, we need to optimize our hygiene level to reduce the infection rate.
I was told that SARS had actually affect most of the first line medical personnel. Lots of doctors, nurses... had been sacrificed in the war with SARS as all of us are not aware of it especially in the early stage of SARS. Same thing might be happening now as medical personnel are exposed to the patients in the first line.
Probably for newbies like us (fresh graduates). It doesn't seem to be a good sign. It just show us that there are lots more preparation that we need to have in order to face these type of situation now and in future. But of cause, we were trained to face it bravely. Fight to the end for these type of wars. There is no way to hide but to face it with our full strength. But what i want to say here is.. everyone don't try to be heroes. Please and please. Work in a team and always take universal precautions. For newbies like us, I think we should really listen to what consultants had ordered. Take this issue seriously as we are a TEAM and i am sure they will guide us well in handling this type of situation. Work smartly without fears so that we can get the Swine Flu controlled without much damage. We are doctors but not SUPERMAN... so, i hope that all my colleagues in all over the countries will take good care of yourselves meanwhile optimizing the health care.. TAKE CARE!!!

A trip to the North

More and more people are leaving 6th college. Currently, i think less than 5 people from my badge are in the hostel. So sad. Everyone is leaving and leaving me here.
Spent a few days travel to the northern region together with few friends. Those are really close friends who i spent lots of time playing around with. Though it was tiring, it was such a memorable and wonderful trip.
We first arrived in Sg Petani, a place where Ranjeev Kumar stay. Haha! Thanks to her parents for treating us a BIG MEAL there. Feel shy because i just went there 6 days before the trip and her parents treat me for second BIG MEAL within 1 week. Huh.. thanks to aunty and uncle la. Haha!
We then leave to SONGKRAM celebration in one of the Thai temple in Kulim. For the first time we can splash water on each other like we are in battle. Of course, we bullied some kids there.. haha! A uncle also challenge others to splash him and seem that we were there.. all 13 of us ended up attacked the uncle.
Such a sudden plan when we ended up to go Langkawi that time. This is my first time to Langkawi le. Of course, i am not the only one la. These are those first timer.. haha!
Can you imagine that these are those chocolate that we bought? so much.. it cause few hundreds ringgits..
After Langkawi, we were rushing back to UM d. But we did stop in Kampar and Teluk Intan. Thank to Neoh's parents and Chui Yng's parents. We did had a great dinner in Kampar. Chui Yng's parent purposely prepare for our dinner le.. Hakka food.. hehe.
We arrive at Teluk Intan around 1030pm and of cause the most attractive part of Teluk Intan is.. Chu Cheong Fan, something that they said wanna eat for the past 5 years. At least they had tried it now.. haha! Overall this is a great trip. A great farewell trip.. Going to miss u guys and gals lo.. take care!!

MBBS graduation..

After 3 weeks of study weeks and 2 weeks of stressful exam.. MBBS 2004/2009 had finally come to the end. We were called to the lecture hall on 6/4/2009 and the names for those graduaters were called 1 by 1. It was such a tension moment especially when your name start with Y as you have to wait for your name until almost the end of the ceremony. Finally, being so lucky as my name was called.. Thanks to everyone who were so supportive to me..
Passing MBBS is not the end, but it is the begins of another journey of life. Full of mixture of feelings. Happy because we had pass the exam, Sad for those who couldn't make it and for leaving our friends and UM, anxious regarding our HO training, distractibility because full of plans for this holidays.. Anyway, we still enjoy it for the time being.
After the result, we were full of activities which include faculty graduation dinner, post MBBS maniak in ICEbar, oath ceremony.. but we do enjoy it together.. at least for the last few moments that we can spend together..

Just a break..

Had been struggling throughout the past 4 weeks for the exam. I had started my exam since 4 days ago. 4 days, but felt like years had gone. It was such a slow but torturing experience. 3 papers done. 2 more clinical exam to go which is the long case and short cases.
Those exam papers were tough. Get panic attack from time to time especially during OSCE exam. Felt mentally and physically so free after the OSCE exam. However, 2 more tough clinical exam still waiting for me. Must try my best to study and be prepared for it. Will re-update my blog after my MBBS exam.. wish me luck ya! and of cause.. good luck to all my friends also.. =)

1st week of study week..

Having study week for my MBBS exam. The monkey mind still can't stay still. Have been running around. Basically the performance of study can be describe as dropping from days to days. huh.. another 2 weeks to go.. sounds like not long from my final exam, but actually it is quite torturing..
Has been practising long cases recently. Seen a few cases which make me feel so pityful. Sometimes, really feel that how lucky we are to be able to stay healthy and free from any illnesses. Probably we have some underlying problem, but at least we are still enjoying our life as it doesn't affect our life yet! Exam is suffering, but i think having some chronic uncurable disease is even more torturing.
Did we actually enjoy and appreciate every seconds that we have? Enjoy everything that we have? I do think we should.
Heard that mat rempik exist in Teluk Intan d.. Sometimes really wonder what came into their minds. They knows that they will get accident because of the reckless riding, yet they become mat rempik. When something bad happens then only they regretted.. what a waste at that point of time. Don't they know how to appreciate life? I think those patients with cancer, end stage renal failure patients, etc. will appreciate life so much better than them.. As what chinese proverbs said: You will only appreciate it after you had lost it.. =) Hope they realized what they were doing.. =)

Dilemma of works..

Suddenly not being that happy. Slightly down going mood. haha! Then, this thought come into my mind. What do we think about doctor? Although i haven't become doctor.. this are things that came into my mind..

A doctor is someone or involved in:
  1. Superior to normal people vs inferior in the hierachy of medical profession (at least for the first few years)
  2. Caring vs Emotional
  3. Ethical vs Laws
  4. Tried all his/her best vs being greedy
  5. Do good vs Do harm
  6. Earns a lot vs not enough earnings
  7. Good doctor vs Bad doctor
  8. Ego vs confidence

We all see things differently. Everydays, we do have different kind of feelings and different points of view. Same to the people around us. No matter how good we are, sure there are complaints from others. No matter how bad we are, sure there are someone appreciate our hardworks.

In the end of the day, the most important thing is.. we tried our best and no matter what's the outcome, WE HAD TRIED OUR VERY BEST....

Feeling bad to those patients..

Final exam soon. Will be on 23rd march 2009 onwards. All the students are desperately practising on short cases and long cases in UMMC. I am sure those lecturers and patients also notice that students are quite active recently.

Good thing is.. we are much more hardworking than usual days. Bad thing is.. we will catch whoever that owns clinical findings in the hospital. A patient calculated how many medical students in total that had examined him in UMMC. The figure was 66 when goes to 1 of my colleagues. By the way, I think i haven't caught this patient yet.

If you step into UMMC now, sure you will met with any medical students anywhere in the hospital. just because.. WE ARE ACTIVE NOW..
